The English Opera Group’s singers and musicians

The chamber orchestra consisted of 2 violins, viola, cello and bass; flute, oboe clarinet, bassoon, horn, harp and percussion.
Notable members were Jack Kessler, the first violin, who had had a very distinguished career, and Joy Boughton, the daughter of Rutland Boughton, the composer.    Poor Joy died of cancer not long afterwards and Britten and the rest of us were very upset, as she was a lovely lady and a fine player.
